-CHARTER SCHOOLS: In 2014-2015 our district spent more than $5M to send kids to charter schools. This year that number is more than $9M, an increase of 43% in just three years! If charter school expansion is approved in Franklin Township that number could grow to $12M! This is tax money taken away from our students going to charter schools, and the taxpayers have no say whatsoever. We will be taking action against Ailanthus, Central Jersey Charter Prep, and Thomas Edison EnergySmart charter schools to make sure they do not get to steal more money away from our students. Learn more about charters here and here.
-DeVOS: The Surgeon General has to be a doctor. The Attorney General has to be a lawyer. How come the Secretary of Education doesn’t have to be a teacher? Betsy DeVos is woefully unqualified for the position and she has made billions of dollars dismantling public education. Read more about the scourge of public education here.
-MEET & GREET: We live in dangerous times. The best way to defend ourselves is to speak truth to power. You have an excellent chance to do this at the Somerset and Hunterdon Legislative Meet & Greet. You can speak directly with legislators that represent us in Trenton at this free event through the Somerset County EA. Here are the details:
